For many lighter capacity crane applications, a custom-designed crane system is no longer necessary.  With the need to provide a flexible and cost-efficient solution for lighter loads and ergonomic solutions, light crane systems were developed.  CRANE 1 features Gorbel for these lighter applications.  Gorbel is the US leader in providing high quality, safe and efficient workstation style crane systems that are ideal for capacities of up to 2 tons and bridge spans up to 30’.

What are Workstation Bridge Cranes and Monorails?
Workstation cranes and monorails limited to 30’ crane span are very easy to install and relocate and relatively inexpensive – so they are perfect for smaller work area.
A Gorbel Workstation bridge crane would be installed to cover rectangular work areas, while Gorbel monoraiI system would be used to move loads along a linear path, cover various work area shapes, or to link work areas together.  Workstation bridge cranes and monoraiIs can be used individually or adapted for more sophisticated applications by the addition of extra monorail tracks, curves, and transfers that are easily configured into a total system.

Why Gorbel’s Workstation Cranes?
Gorbel® Work Station Cranes are a proven way to improve productivity, increase quality, and provide a safer work environment. Both the aluminum and steel Gorbel Workstation Crane Systems utilize enclosed track that is high in strength and low in weight.  With a production time of about a week with standard features, CRANE 1 can have your installation configured and installed in less than a month in most cases.

Free Standing floor supported systems do not put stress on the building’s overhead structure. The typical installation takes only a day or two and is less intrusive to production than larger I-Beam systems.  Installation is usually more straight forward, and these cranes are also easier to relocate in the future. Free Standing systems require a reinforced concrete floor of at least 6 inches.

Gorbel cranes can span up to 30 feet and lift capacities between 150 and 4000 lbs.  Gorbel’s line of ergonomic crane products is a great way to increase safety and productivity. Depending on your needs, CRANE 1 can supply a Gorbel workstation crane that can handle almost any project.

  • Applications with lighter loads (less than 4000 lbs.)
  • Parts Assembly
  • Machining
  • Palletizing loads
  • Injection Molding
  • Warehouse loading docks
  • Process Equipment Maintenance
  • Truck Service Centers

Proven increased Safety and Productivity
In a study performed by the Rochester Institute of Technology, manually operated, traditional I-Beam cranes were compared to Gorbel® Work Station Cranes against the push and pull standards developed by Snook and Cirello (1991) for consideration by NIOSH. This study consisted of two parts:

  • Part One compared the Snook and Cirello guidelines with the type of push/pull forces experienced in industrial conditions on I-Beam and workstation cranes from Gorbel.
  • Part Two determined the difference in productivity for both types of cranes.

The study revealed that workers using manually operated bridge cranes can safely handle significantly more weight with a Gorbel® Work Station Crane than with an I-Beam crane. In the workplace, this translates into a reduced risk of job-related injury as well as significant increases in work productivity.

Gorbel Advantages

  • Enclosed track / easy movement and long life
  • Rigid runways / superior load positioning – no movement or “crab-walking” of the bridge
  • Ease of Installation/install on any standard 6″ concrete floor
  • Smooth-rolling surface / Easier movement of bridge and trolleys
  • Multiple track profiles and spanning capabilities/Adaptable, flexible, and cost-competitive

Gorbel Crane offers Customizing Options

CRANE 1 can offer Gorbel crane systems in a variety of options that allow for a more customized application.
Gorbel can fabricate both the bridge and track material in the standard steel construction or the optional lightweight Aluminum or corrosion-resistant stainless steel.  Standard paint colors are Gorbel Blue or Safety Yellow.  Custom paint colors can be provided for the entire installation to suit the safety or aesthetic requirements of the workplace.

Cranes can be supplied with double girders with the hoist pulled up between the girders for low headroom applications where ceiling height limits the high hook.
The bridge runways can be supplied with cantilevered supports and with Seismic Zone IV  engineering.  Bridges and hoist trolleys can be motorized.

CRANE 1 can install the system using any hook mounted electric chain hoist.  The hoist hook is simle to connect to Gorbe;’s trolley system allowing us to offer hoists from Budgit, CM, Coffing, Demag, Harrington, Street Crane or Yale.
